Explorers! - Digital Awareness and Online Safety for Disadvantaged Girls

E-mentoring’s program titled Explorers! is implemented with the support of the Roots and Wings Foundation’s Solidarity Women’s Program. The initiative focuses on strengthening the online safety, self-confidence, and self-advocacy skills of disadvantaged young people - especially girls.

Why is this important to us - and to you?

The digital space has become the primary environment for young people, and unfortunately, it is also where they experience most forms of harm. Online harassment is not virtual - it is a real, everyday problem that undermines self-confidence and leads to isolation. Disadvantaged girls often receive less support from their surroundings, making them more vulnerable to risks. This project was created to ensure that young people do not face these situations alone.

E-mentoring’s goal is for girls to:
  • not feel left alone,
  • know that help is available,
  • and be part of a community where they can feel safe both online and offline.

Because online harassment is not a “virtual problem.”

Program Objectives

Our plans are for participants to gain knowledge and tools that will help them:

  • Recognize different forms of online harassment (bullying), manipulation, and digital abuse.
  • Understand their rights and know where to turn for help.
  • Build a supportive community where they can strengthen one another by sharing and processing their own stories.

Activities

Implementation is based on experiential and interactive methods, both in person and online:

  • Trainings for disadvantaged mentored children in rural and Budapest locations,
  • Preparation and training of mentors on the topic of online safety,
  • Publication of thematic content, posts, and a practical training guide on E-mentoring’s online platforms and social media channels.

Implementation Timeline

The 6+1-month project process is divided into the following phases:

  1. Preparation: Development of the training program.
  2. Organization and professional development: Informing partner institutions and scheduling training sessions.
  3. Training and campaign implementation: Delivering the trainings and collecting stories.
  4. Dissemination: Evaluating results and communicating about the implemented programs and outcomes.

Another Step Toward Safetí and Confidence

For us, the Explorers program is another important step toward ensuring that every child - especially girls in the most vulnerable situations - can experience that:

They have a voice, they have the right to protection, and they are never alone.

E-tanoda’s project against online harassment, incorporating a gender-sensitive perspective, was supported by the Roots and Wings Foundation.
