Online Safety – Training for Teachers and Mentors for Online Environments
This training material addresses online abuse, harassment, and safety, specifically designed for teachers and mentors working with adolescents. As digital presence has become an integral part of young people’s lives, it is essential that they are able to recognize risky situations and have the tools needed to navigate the online space safely.
The program pays special attention to gender perspectives and to situations that disproportionately affect girls and young women in the online environment. The training not only presents different forms of online abuse but also emphasizes prevention, conscious online presence, and positive reinforcement.
The methodology is interactive, built on discussions, collaborative processing, and reflective exercises. Participants learn through real-life scenarios how to respond, how to support young people, and how to create a safe and trusting environment.
Focus areas:
- online safety and conscious presence,
- recognizing online harassment and abuse,
- boundaries and self-protection,
- positive reinforcement and support,
- check-ins and reflective processing.
The aim of the training is not only to provide information, but to equip participants with practical tools and a more confident approach that they can apply in their own communities.
The E-tanoda project addressing online abuse, with a focus on gender-sensitive approaches, was supported by the Roots and Wings Foundation.
