This Is How 2024 Has Been at E-tanoda So Far: We Don’t Stop Even in the Summer!
Five months of the year have passed, and we already have many accomplishments behind us. Let’s see what we have done at E-tanoda in 2024 so far!
Who Are We?
E-tanoda is a mentoring community where both online and in-person mentoring takes place. Our mentors are high school volunteers, and our mentees are disadvantaged students from all over the country. Our mentors not only provide tutoring but also support further education and help with study methods. University student volunteers train our mentors monthly.
What Have We Done This Year?
From January to April, the children spent 350 hours learning together, receiving help in general education and other subjects. Beyond studying, the mentor-mentee pairs could talk, get to know each other (returning pairs could deepen their relationships), and our high school mentors also guided them in career orientation.
We Met Twice
We hold monthly meetings with our high school mentors where they can improve the skills necessary for their work: lesson planning, material development, communication, empathy, and patience. These occasions are important for sharing unique experiences and discussing them. We pay special attention to the feedback from mentors, learning what they need and what they feel they have mastered. This helps us grow as well.
Here’s what the mentors shared about the February meeting:
"It was useful to see into the children’s lives and circumstances, which helped us understand why we need to be a bit more patient and understanding with them."
"I was very glad that, beyond the professional part, mentors could share their experiences and opinions with each other. I learned a lot from this and am trying to incorporate it into my work."
We Also Have Collaborations
We are proud to be working with Romaversitas for the third time—last summer, for example, we regularly met with refugee children to hold art and circus pedagogy sessions, forming closer relationships while allowing them to express their stories. We continue this joint work this summer as well.
